Matt joined KTC in June 2017 as a Principal Transport Planner and has over 14 years’ experience since graduating from Cardiff University in 2003 with a BSc (Hons) in City and Regional Planning. After a year gaining experience working for a Planning and Environmental consultancy, Matt returned to Cardiff University to complete an MSc in Transport Planning whilst also gaining valuable experience in the public sector by working during the holidays at Mendip District Council as a Planning Officer.
After graduating top-of-the-class in his MSc, Matt’s focus switched to transport planning and traffic modelling and Road Safety when he gained useful experience at a private consultancy which included a period of secondment to Carmarthenshire County Council, lecturing at Cardiff University, and partnership working with B&NES and the Highways Agency (now Highways England).
Since then, Matt has worked for a number of transport consultancies across south-west England which has helped him to gain a broad level of transport related experience on a wide range of development schemes. These include both large and small residential projects; leisure proposals including stadiums, church extensions and golf clubs; commercial sites such as shopping centres, individual stores and business parks; and the design, assessment and modelling of various highways schemes.
This has helped Matt to gain a detailed knowledge and understanding of Travel Plans, Transport Assessments and Statements, Environmental Statements, Accessibility Assessments, Non-Motorised User Audits, Site comparison Reports and Construction Traffic Assessments. In addition, Matt has experience of attending Public Consultations, Planning Committees and stakeholder meetings, often involving presentations of technical work to transport professionals, council representatives, pressure groups or general members of the public.
Since starting at Key Transport, Matt has used his experience to assist with a number of projects including bus route assessments and Environmental Statement production for the Callowhill Court city centre redevelopment, car park capacity assessments for Longleat, and work towards a planning application for a school extension.
